39-200K Bachmann BR Mk1 Super BG EWS Maroon & Gold
Announced in the Spring 2021 edition of the Bachmann Times, we are delighted to present you with this limited edition BR Mk1 Super BG No. 94538 in EWS Maroon and Gold livery, depicting the vehicle converted by DB Schenker for use on the Cruise Saver boat trains.
Based on the Bachmann Branchline BR Mk1 Super BG, our model is fitted with BR4 Bogies just like the prototype and features NEM coupling pockets mounted on a close-coupling mechanism, plus a beautiful rendition of the maroon and gold livery.

HISTORY
Boat Trains were once a regular sight on the British railway network, transporting ferry and cruise passengers from major towns and cities to principal ports. After dwindling away following privatisation, the introduction of the Cruise Saver in 2010 gave boat trains a resurgence. With the involvement of both DB Schenker and DRS, the trains were formed from a variety of Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3 coaching stock. To provide luggage space, DB Schenker resurrected one of its BR Mk1 Super BGs – No. 94538 – which had its Rail Express Systems livery replaced by EWS maroon to match the company’s existing EWS-liveried charter stock. A second Super BG was later returned to traffic to provide a spare. On occasion a Northern Belle-liveried BR Mk1 BG, available as a Bachmann Collectors Club limited edition (39-175K), was also used on the Cruise Saver trains to provide luggage space. With the train operating between Scotland and Southampton, there is a lot of scope for our latest model to appear in many parts of the country!
Although DB Schenker no longer operate the Cruise Saver, Super BG No. 94538 remains a part of the DB fleet in its attractive EWS Maroon livery and has seen use on various workings around the UK network
