The British Rail Mk2F First Open (FO) coach is part of the Mk2 series of railway carriages introduced between 1964 and 1975. The Mk2F, built from 1972 onwards, featured improved safety and comfort compared to earlier models. The First Open variant offers first-class accommodation in an open-plan layout with spacious seating and large windows, enhancing passenger comfort and visibility. Constructed with a steel body, the Mk2F coaches incorporated better suspension and soundproofing. Widely used on British mainline services, the Mk2F First Open remains a significant example of mid-20th-century British railway design and passenger experience.
